You're in Liverpool or planning a trip there and have no idea what to do... Luckily this blog will cover 19 fun things to do in Liverpool for couples in 2022. We are in a great position to give you some top recommendations, as Robyn lived there for 4 years and Henry has been there for over 30 football games!

In the north of England, Liverpool is renowned for its party lifestyle, extensive history and unique football culture. However, for such a small city, you will be surprised by the amount it has to offer.

19 Fun Things To Do In Liverpool for Couples in 2022

We might be biased since Robyn loved living in Liverpool and Henry is a massive Liverpool football supporter. Still, we think you will agree with us once you see what fun things are available for couples!

This article will provide an extensive list of fun things to do in Liverpool for couples. Let us know if you try any out; we would love to hear!

Activities to do in Liverpool for Couples

Ghetto Golf

Let's start with Ghetto golf Liverpool. This is the go-to date spot for couples in Liverpool as it incorporates mini-golf, cocktails and music all in one.

We love ghetto golf and have even been to the one in Birmingham for our first date! (check out our spontaneous things to do with boyfriend blog for more about golf) This activity is fun for a couple as it creates many conversational points. With every course providing weird and wonderful obstacles, you will surely be able to have a laugh with your partner.

It is a hotspot for cool young people in the Baltic area of Liverpool in an old brewery. We think golf is always a fail-safe option when looking for fun things to do together as a couple.

Lane 7

Like Ghetto golf, Lane 7 is such a fun thing to do in Liverpool for couples. It is an entertainment bar including bowling, ping pong and an American pool table.

Located in the centre of Liverpool, this is great date idea into when wandering around Liverpool City Centre. Hire out a bowling lane and challenge each other to a competition. If bowling is not your idea of fun, head over to the ping pong area or have a go at the American pool table.

The great thing about Lane 7 is that there are various activities to keep you entertained outside of bowling, and they serve unique cocktails.

Crosby Beach

Coming from the Midlands, we get very excited when a city is near a beach! It is easy to forget that Liverpool is on the coast of England and home to some of the best beaches in the UK.

Crosby beach is by far our favourite. When Robyn was at University, she used to always visit the beach. Now, it is a great thing to do together as a couple when we are in Liverpool.

Activities to do in Liverpool for Couples

The unique thing about Crosby Beach is that it is home to 100 Antony Gormley sculptures known as 'Another Place' spread across the beach. It really is mind-blowing and like nothing, you would have seen before. This is a fun thing to do in Liverpool for couples as it combines relaxation with culture.

If you are lucky enough to go in the summer, then the beach is super fun for couples to sunbathe and enjoy the sun. But, equally, if you visit in winter, it adds an eerie feeling, especially surrounding the sculptures. Sometimes they even add Santa hats to them at Christmas!

Anfield Stadium (Yes, Anfield )

Now, we have to mention Anfield over Goodison Park as Henry is a big Liverpool supporter. Additionally, Robyn used to work as a steward at Anfield during University.

Therefore, we can both vouch for the fantastic atmosphere of Anfield stadium. Liverpool football team is one of the most famous teams in the world, and the culture surrounding them is infectious.

Anfield Stadium things to do

Henry about 3 years ago in his prime Champions League seat on the tunnel at Anfield

It is one of the best stadiums to watch a football game, and the grounds are also so fun to explore and experience. Arguably, Liverpool fans create the best environment to be around.

If you are lucky enough to convince your other half, a visit to a match or tour of the stadium is a fun thing to do in Liverpool as a couple. Fortunately for Henry, Robyn got sucked into the culture when she attended University, so there is not much convincing to be had!

Cultural things to do in Liverpool for Couples

The Tate Liverpool

The Tate Liverpool is perfect if your idea of fun as a couple is visiting famous art or experiencing a cool exhibition.

The Tate is a must-see home to some of the most incredible art in Liverpool. The Tate often runs different exhibitions on interesting topics. Robyn's favourite when she was at University was the Keith Haring exhibition as it was simple but effective.

While it might not be at the top of your list when thinking about fun things to do for couples in Liverpool, especially with the crazy nightlife the city holds. However, that's what we love about Liverpool, there are activities for everyone.

Oh, and did we mention it's free! Of course, anything that is free is always a bonus!

Cultural things to do in Liverpool for Couples

Ferry across the Mersey

I am sure you have heard about the famous Mersey ferry crossing, but if you haven't, we are here to tell you! In our opinion, it is a must-do thing on your visit to Liverpool.

For some background, Liverpool borders one side of the River Mersey, and the Wirral borders the other. The Wirral is a peninsular on the other side of Liverpool and is around 15 miles long. So our top tip is don't get people from Liverpool, and the Wirral mixed up as they take it personally!

The Mersey River ferry simply takes you from one side to the other. As silly as it sounds, it is a massive tourist attraction. As the Wirral is close to Liverpool, it is common for people to commute across the water to Liverpool.

This is a fun thing to do as a couple in Liverpool as it is an activity that is solely unique to the city. You can't get on a ferry between cities in many other parts of the UK, can you? It's also a good excuse to head to the Wirral and have a day out there.

Museums

If you have read our top 10 attractions in Amsterdam blog, you will know we are partial to a museum or two. Like many of the culture options we have picked, they may not be conventional choices for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples, but that depends on what you count as fun.

Liverpool is home to the World Museum, Liverpool Beatles Museum, and the Museum of Liverpool, to name a few. So, you can immerse yourself in the wealth of information they all hold.

If you are a couple that loves to learn something new every time you visit a new city, then Liverpool. Museums can provide this. With such a wide selection to choose from, there will be something to suit each of you in the couple.

Our favourite is the Museum of Liverpool as it is all about the history of Liverpool. It helps to appreciate the city's culture more, especially as it is located on the Liverpool docks, which hold so much history.

Cathedrals

Liverpool is home to 2 of the most beautiful cathedrals in the UK. However, you will have to let us know which one you prefer, as there is a lot of controversy surrounding the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Liverpool Metropolitan cathedral has dramatic architecture. A remarkable fact is that Robyn sat one of her university exams in the crypt of this cathedral!

The cool thing about these cathedrals is they are located opposite each other. Sit on the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral. You can see the Liverpool Cathedral directly in front of you. This means they are a max a 10min walk from each other.

While it's not necessarily classed as a 'fun thing to do in Liverpool for couples', the beauty these cathedrals hold will be hard not to become immersed in. One of Robyn's favourite memories from Liverpool was going up to the top of the Liverpool Cathedral, which has one of the best views of Liverpool. So, while the cultural aspect might not intrigue you as a fun thing to do in Liverpool as a couple, the option to go to the top and get a panoramic view of Liverpool might do.

If you do go to the top, be sure to get a good couple's pictures together!

Restaurants in Liverpool for Couples

The Florist

This is one of Robyn's favourite spots in Liverpool and is where she had her graduation dinner. It makes sense once you see the massive tree at the centre, floral staircases and neon lights beaming through.

Our Pretty Brunches London blog shows that flower walls have blown up and taken over the UK population. However, the Florist, we believe, has the edge over all of these and has done for some years. You could say they were the originals in the game.

If you are looking for something a bit fancier but still a fun thing to do in Liverpool for couples, the Florist can provide you an excellent date night. The cocktails are out of this world, and the food is fantastic.

Be sure to get some snaps for Instagram like Robyn's below!

Baltic Market

If you are looking for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples, but both have different preferences when it comes to food, The Baltic market will sort you out.

Consisting of several food stools and a bar, the Baltic market, located in the Baltic Triangle, is one of the coolest places in Liverpool for a couple's date night. Pick from oven-cooked pizza, halloumi fries, gin slushes, and vegan dishes! It will be hard to choose!

Henry and I enjoyed some Thai food and ordered a big bucket of beer when we went for a couple's date night in Liverpool. There are several places to sit outside and inside.

You will regularly find live music and events to immerse yourself into the scouse spirit on the weekend!

Villa Romana Italian

We know that many of the recommendations for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples have been more pricey. However, Villa Romana Italian is a fabulous Italian in the heart of Liverpool.

Robyn was a frequent visitor of this restaurant when she was at University, not only because it was affordable, the food was terrific!

Serving classic Italian dishes paired with a great drink menu, you can't go wrong with Villa Romana for a cheap and cheerful couples date night in Liverpool. The staff are lovely and really attentive. Robyn went not too long ago, and they were so accommodating, fitting her in last minute.

It is a great fail-safe option when looking for a romantic restaurant in Liverpool for couples.

Bars in Liverpool for Couples

Bars in Liverpool for Couples

Kazimier Gardens

You are in luck because Robyn would say that this bar is one of Liverpool's best-kept secrets! Unlike other blogs advising you on fun things to do in Liverpool for couples, they may not know about this really cool spot.

Situated just of concert square on Seal Street, you will find Kazimier. If you want to impress your other half with something fun to do in Liverpool, then head here for some drinks and overall good vibes. Now, it won't look like anything from the outside and if anything looks like scaffolding. It is easy to miss!

Once you walk inside, you will find a fire pit, cool seating areas and a bar at the back. This is a place to impress your partner, especially at night when the fairy lights glisten around the whole place.

Let us know if you find it!

FIVE

We found FIVE when Robyn was helping book a bar for Henry and his friends to visit when he was in Liverpool. From Henry's response, he really enjoyed this bar.

One of Liverpool's rooftop bars, it almost feels as if you are on a rooftop on a Greek island. The service is top-notch, and the cocktails always receive great reviews. They even gave him blankets when Henry went when it got chilly in the evening.

FIVE is perfect for couples to enjoy a romantic drink together at sunset away from the busy crowds of the streets below.

Berry and Rye - Secret Bar in Liverpool

Berry and Rye is a super fun thing to visit when in Liverpool as a couple. Again, a hidden gem amongst the chain bars surrounding.

If you can find it, Berry and Rye is situated on Berry Street, ironically. To give you some idea, it has a black exterior but no branding.

To enter, you must knock on the door and wait for someone to answer. Once they answer, you won't be able to see inside yet. Once in, you go behind the curtain where it reveals a speakeasy-style bar.

Arguably, it had some of the best cocktails we have ever had as a couple. So, if you want something fun to do in Liverpool as a couple, challenge each other to order a different cocktail. Our recommendations would be the ones that taste as if you have bitten into a pepper! I couldn't quite believe the flavours in my mouth!

This is one of the most unique bars we have ever been to; good luck finding it!

Alcatraz Cell Block Three-Six

Now, this is not a bar either of us has tried out, but we have heard so many good things we couldn't not include it!

This bar is an immersive themed cocktail bar; how cool does that sound! Its theme is based on the infamous Alcatraz prison, aiming to smuggle your booze past the prison wardens!

The inmates are your bartenders, and the guards are crooks. So you have to be creative with how you sneak the alcohol past the guard's so your bartender inmates can make your cocktails. This is such a good date night idea for couples in Liverpool as it combines an escape room with cocktails.

This is definitely up there with a bar a couple things to do want to try as a new fun thing to do in Liverpool together. So let us know if you try it out; we would love to know your experience!

Hot Water Comedy Club

Do you love a laugh? Who doesn't feel better after having a good old giggle with your other half? Liverpool is home to the Hot Water Comedy Club, and they have 2 venues in the city.

When looking for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples, the great thing about the hot water comedy club is that most of the performances are free! Perfect for a spontaneous in-the-week date night.

Robyn regularly went to the comedy club with friends on weeknights when amateur comedians would try out their material! It is such a unique and fun thing to do in Liverpool and is guaranteed to make you laugh, no matter how good or bad!

However, even on the weekends, the tickets never go for more than around £15! It has some of the best comedians and has won two awards. We may be biased, but scousers tend to have a great sense of humour, which makes much of the material used even funnier!

If you like comedy clubs, check out our things to do in Cardiff blog to see similar venues there!

Bongo Bingo

Bongo bingo was originally started in Liverpool before spreading to more locations in the UK. However, we say that you can't not come to Liverpool and go to one of the original nights out.

When looking for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples, it might not come up as an option. But we think this is a good activity for the party couples who love a night out together.

You can't help but have fun with the crazy challenges, dancing on tables and dance-offs. You could even be lucky enough to win a prize! Prizes range from boxes of coco pops and cardboard cut-outs of Ansley Harriet to TVs!

Robyn went to many bongo bingo events when she lived in Liverpool and would recommend it to any couple looking for fun!

Philharmonic

Fun fact, Robyn actually had her graduation in the Philharmonic Hall in 2019.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is home to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. There are live performances there regularly, as well as events and comedy shows.

Robyn’s graduation way back in the day…

So, if you find yourself stuck on things to do in Liverpool as a couple, check the Philharmonic website and see if there is anything on. The main hall is stunning and a wholesome way to spend an evening.

The Philharmonic is near lots of nice bars and restaurants, such as the Florist, so we are sure to check them out for some more fun after or before the show.

Matthew street

Controversially, we prefer Matthew Street over concert square. Matthew Street is the perfect location when looking for fun things to do in Liverpool for couples.

Matthew Street is the home of the famous cavern club and boasts several lively bars and clubs. You can't help but enjoy yourself on this street, not only because of the bars but also because of the people providing a great atmosphere.

If you are a couple that loves a night out together, then you need to try out Matthew Street on your visit. Every bar is so affordable, and each brings its own unique kind of fun.

Final thoughts on fun things to do in Liverpool for couples

For such a small city, there are so many fun things to do in Liverpool for couples; we have only touched on a few of them. So, whether you like learning something new in a museum or immersing yourself in the nightlife, there is something in Liverpool for you as a couple!

There is much more we could mention, such as the Cavern Club, Castle Street, Penny Lane, Sefton Park and Bold Street, to name a few. So let us know if you want us to do part 2, and I am sure Robyn will be to help!

Let us know if you try any of these out; we would love to know which one was your favourite!
